The Second Generation of Literacy books Reviewed

Another important step was taken towards improving the literacy education in Afghanistan. After more than 10 years, the second generation of literacy education books was developed. On the last workshop on May 8-15, 2017, a new generation of literacy education books were finally edited and presented.

Based on the experiences with the 1th Generation of literacy books, published after the Taliban time in 2005, this 2nd Generation of literacy books is based on the new curriculum for literacy education developed and introduced in 2014. This 2nd generation of literacy books also builds on the new curriculum framework, which clearly links literacy education for young adults to different fields of work but also to different fields of age experience and different fields of society.

The development of this new 2nd  generation of literacy books took about 2 years. National and international education specialists took part in the process, organized by UNESCO, involving several important literacy providers, like ANAFAE.

Mr. Hayatullah  Mirzayar literacy education expert of ANAFAE participated in the review of the new generation of literacy books.

The new literacy books are developed in two national languages Dari and Pashto.

Beside the teaching books for the literacy learners, a teacher guide and a student’s workbook were developed. In addition, the Holy Quran curriculum, as part of the literacy education was developed in cooperation of Education Department of Afghanistan.

An additional student centered evaluation book also was presented. Here teachers, supervisors and those who monitor the progress of the literacy education courses can see the individual literacy capacities obtained by the learners during the education course.

The new set of books will be published soon and will then be introduced to all 34 provinces.

Of course, ANAFAE as one of the innovative literacy education will also use the new generation of literacy books in its literacy education courses. ANAFAE received the UNESCO Literacy Award called after the first Lady “Bibi Gul Literacy Prize” on November 20, 2016 for innovative education services.
