Strategy for Development and Being Sustainable

The Afghan National Association for Adult Education (ANAFAE) conducted a 2-day Organizational Development (OD) Workshop with the support of DVV International in Kabul on 20 & 21 September 2016.

The main focus of the workshop was to follow up on and continue the work of the task force groups and to decide about their action plans.

In the first day of the workshop: The task force groups’ representatives presented a PowerPoint Presentation on the progress of their groups’ work, and steps they have taken so far. To provide further understanding of the groups’ work, they also shared a hard-copy document of their work with the workshop participants. After each presentation, participants divided into groups to give their feedbacks on each force group’s work. At this stage of work, some of the accepted solutions from previous workshops have been tested and practiced in women ALC and Charikar ALC.

In the second day of the workshop: All 18 urgent organizational challenges from previous workshop were once more presented to the participants. The progress and the steps taken since the last OD workshop were highlighted in this workshop, showing that some practical steps have taken place.

Moreover, participants discussed the following five challenges:

  1. Missing Konkor Courses
  2. Integration of the OD process throughout all units and departments of ANAFAE incl. all ALCs and CLCs
  3. ALCs and CLCs are not operating in a cost efficient manner (their expenses exceeding the income)
  4. Lack of standardized and relevant portfolio learning products, current ones in the ALCs and CLCs often not compliant with national and international standards
  5. Insufficient planning and management structure in the service development division

In five working groups, the identified problems were analyzed. Solutions for improvements were discussed and presented. All workshop participants had the opportunity to comment on whether the presented solutions would work out, based on their own expertise and experiences.

In a final presentation round, a special panel decided during a plenary session to approve the presented solution or whether additional work is needed for final approval.

The most important personnel, like the Head of Education Departments, the Education Managers of the Education Centres from Kabul and Parwan and relevant staff from the program coordination office in Kabul actively participated in this workshop.

The workshop as usual was very lively and dynamic, and conducted in a participatory manner that allowed every participant to contribute actively.

The same workshop was conducted just some days before for the education program in the North zones in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province.
