2nd Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 ends with regional network for SDG 4

Civil society representatives took an active roles in the Asia Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED II). CSO advocates have actively engaged with their respective national delegations in the working groups during APMED II.

Robbie Guevara, ASPBAE President, in his message highlighted, that civil society organizations play a valuable role in the achievement of the Goal 4 targets.

He also emphasized the important contribution of civil society organiztions in achieving SDG4 as identified in the Education 2030 Framework for Action.

Twelve ASPBAE member organizations attended the APMED II that aims to agree on the SDG4 Education 2030 Implementation Roadmap for the region.

The CSO advocates have volunteered to report on the outcomes of their working groups, ensuring that our key messages are not lost.

Sustainable Development Goal 4 is vital to the achievement of all 17 SDGs as they all depend on knowledge and skills. SDG 4 sees education as lifelong learning; this means improving the education sector as a whole.

One of the key challenges for SDG 4 in the Asian region is the need for a coherent plan for addressing all of the facets of SDG 4, requiring “seamless coverage” of early childhood care and education, formal education (ECCE), non-formal education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and higher education and lifelong learning.

As an outcome of the 2nd Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education a network of coordinators has been established to help manage the immense task of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4’s transformative vision of inclusive and equitable quality education in Asia-Pacific.

The regional network of national coordinators, comprising national representatives, members of the global steering committee on SDG 4 and a technical working group dedicated to the goal, was launched at the second Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED2030 II), which concluded in Bangkok on Friday.

The launch of the network was one of the chief outcomes of APMED2030 II, which brought together more than 200 participants from more than 30 countries, including education ministry representatives, civil society organizations focused on education, development partners, UN agency representatives, donors and researchers.

APMED2030 II gave participants a forum to discuss the immense challenges in achieving the seven targets of SDG 4 as well as to identify opportunities for collaboration.
